Tarantulas for Sale
The Stripe-Knee Tarantulas are the most common species of tarantula in the hobby that we carry. For many spider-lovers, it can be one of the first species of tarantula kept. This species is from semi-arid and rocky regions where there are lots of places for a tarantula to hide. Occasionally, the tarantula will molt, with their feet up while on their backs, and will possibly not eat for up to 2 weeks. During this time, they should not be disturbed and any uneaten prey removed from the enclosure for the tarantula’s safety. These arachnids can live up to 7 years if male or up to 30 years if female with proper care, though, growing anywhere between 2 to 10 inches in length. They can make great pets for beginners or experienced pet owners alike!
Tarantula Diet
Tarantulas like to eat a carnivorous diet of live insects, such as crickets, mealworms, super worms, or even roaches. Some may enjoy the occasional frozen pinkie mouse after thawing to room temperature. Include clean, de-chlorinated water on shallow bowls, plants, or similar structures for them to drink. Feeding typically should occur in the evening as they are nocturnal, and any live food removed after feeding as the other insects may harm the tarantula as it sleeps.
Tarantula Habitat
Stripe-Knee Tarantulas need an enclosure or tank with enough room to exercise and perform their usual behaviors with a locking lid. In their habitat, they need something to retreat into (or under) like a piece of cork bark, half log, or a small upturned flower pot. Be sure to also provide them plenty of branches and twigs for them to build webs upon. They are fairly simple to care for, though it is suggested the habitats have a 75 to 80°F temperature, 50% to 90% humidity with daily misting, and little to no lighting. Keep them away from direct sunlight and any incandescent lights. Infrared lights are best for viewing your tarantula. Bedding can consist of fiber or coconut natural bedding, reptile bark, or damp moss. Tarantulas are solitary creatures and do not tolerate the presence of another in the same enclosure, so keep only one per habitat.
Are Tarantulas Right for Me?
While Stripe-Knee Tarantulas are one of the most interesting pets to have and are very fun to watch, they should not be handled often or with great care when doing so. One must be very careful not to drop the tarantula, even from a short height, as their bodies are highly pressurized and this can cause great to fatal injury. Therefore, a tarantula may not be a suitable pet for small children without close adult supervision during any interaction. Also, their bite, while not usually very harmful, can be much like a bee sting so those with allergies to stings and bites probably should avoid keeping or handling this kind of pet. Otherwise, they are very easy to care for and maintain! They are perfect for households that are either noise or space restricted such as apartments or suitable for those looking for an unconventional type of pet.
