Back in 1985, Robert Wilson - a retired marine and FBI agent who had also built the world's largest armored-car business in Chicago in the seventies and founded Wilson Pet Supply distribution company shortly thereafter - opened a pet store and named it after his beloved uncle, offering
puppies and kittens for sale to local customers. Decades later, we are still family owned and deeply rooted in the central Indiana community.
Robert chose the name "Uncle Bill’s" to pay homage to his uncle Bill. His uncle was an avid card player and farmer. The only form of collateral the other farmers had in those times was animals. Uncle Bill ended up winning a menagerie of animals during those games, and it was often the joke that he should open a pet store. That idea eventually became reality with our first location in Indianapolis in the mid-eighties.
Phil Wilson took over ownership in 1989 when Robert retired, along with his children, Lori and Scott.
After a battle with cancer, Phil went to be with his wife, Linda, in late 2022. Lori and Scott now own and operate Uncle Bill's Pet Centers as a brother/sister duo, expanding service to include e-commerce and a new sixth location in Zionsville. Making Uncle Bill's a 3rd-generation family-owned business for over 35 years.
Today, we still foster that family feeling in each of our six Indiana locations. Even though some of our customers come from as far away as Chicago and Cincinnati to take advantage of our unmatched selection and quality, we love to build relationships and strive to make each of our stores a happy and uplifting place to visit.
