Humane and Ethical Puppy Breeders

Uncle Bill’s takes great care in selecting and overseeing breeders who supply us with puppies. Our standards meet or exceed federal USDA standards, and include requirements for cleanliness, space, shelter, medical care, record keeping, breeding protocols, socialization, and compassionate care. We source many of our animals from within the state, which allows us to inspect breeder facilities regularly.

We also partner with the Canine Care Certified (CCC) program through the College of Veterinary Medicine at Purdue University. CCC is a nationwide, voluntary program that addresses the health and overall welfare of dogs in the care of U.S. breeders. It is the only program that measures the physical health and well-being of dogs and puppies as well as the behavior and overall quality of life for animals raised by breeders.

Many of our customers like to know where their puppies were born, and we’re happy to provide more information and pictures about these humane and ethical facilities.

An Article on One of Our Breeders:
Tim and Martha Wagler (and family)

wagler kennel  My family and I have been raising dogs in Southern Indiana for the past four years.  My wife Martha and oldest son Matthew are big help in the kennel.  Martha and I do all of the cleaning and feeding, and Matthew helps with the puppies.

We mostly have larger breeds of dogs in our kennel with the exception of our Pembroke Welsh Corgis.  Our other breeds of dogs in our kennel are: English Mastiffs, Weimaraners, Soft Coated Wheatens, and German Shepherds.   wagler weimaraner female in turnout yard

Since our kennel is fairly new there hasn’t been a need for many improvements, but one thing that we added in the Fall of 2013 was a large turnout yard.  Our dogs are mainly large breeds, so we wanted to make sure that we built a large turnout yard to ensure that they would have enough room to run and play.  In the time that we have built the turnout yard and began using it, we have noticed that our adult dogs seem more content.

The time they spend running and playing out in the grass and sunshine helps their overall health and quality of life.  In the future we hope to add another turnout yard to our kennel.

Another aspect in our kennel that we focus on is making sure that our puppies are well socialized with each other and with humans.  Our son Matthew helps out in this area as he plays with the puppies.

Overall in our kennel we strive to maintain a clean, healthy environment where our dogs can live happy, healthy lives.  We know that we do not know everything that there is to know in our industry, so we strive to listen and to learn off of others in our industry  who have more experience and knowledge.  By learning  from others, we can continue to strive toward  having the best kennel that we can, and therefore having the best dogs and puppies that we can.

Our larger breeds of dogs can tend to have large litters of puppies.  Larger litters means more is needed from the momma.  This means that it is even more important to make sure that the mommas get the proper amount of nutrients needed.  To help in these situations, we use Royal Canin Starter.  This helps the momma get the proper nutrition so that she can provide what her litter needs while maintaining her own health.
