Facts and Information
This fish is brightly colored and "cute" as a juvenile, but mature specimens measure upwards of four feet! Males have a pennant-like first ray on the dorsal and a "hump" on the forehead. The color is a uniform dark green with lighter bands in the middle of the body. Young fish are creamy white with black speckles on the head, dorsal and anal fins, and two orange saddles on the back with black ocelli above each saddle. Juvenile fish are very popular in the aquarium hobby and are easily netted from shallow tide pools. Older fish are secretive and solitary, inhabiting deeper water where they feed on snails, crabs, and sea urchins. Young fish should be accompanied by similar sized fishes and adults should be likewise. Small Twin Spot Coris wrasses, and young wrasses in general, need small, frequent feedings of meaty foods.
