Facts and Information

This strikingly marked electric blue and black fish is only found in the Red Sea. It frequents areas rich in coral growth as well as lagoon areas where it feeds on passing plankton and bottom-dwelling crustaceans. Captive spawnings of this species have occurred, which is fortunate as this deep-water fish can be difficult to capture as it dashes into crevices at depths close to 200 feet. All the Dottyback fishes are severely prone to jumping from the aquarium. Fortunately, they are rather hardy and disease resistant, and rebound from the stresses of shipping rather well, even when poor shipping methods are employed. Ragged fins heal readily under normal aquarium conditions and most, if not all, prepared foods are readily taken, as are frozen types. Small live foods are highly relished and help to stave off the frequent color loss Dottybacks experience in captivity.
