Facts and Information
The Yellowline Goby is very similar to the Neon Goby, except that its stripes are yellow rather than bright blue. Barely two inches long at maturity, the Neon Goby feeds itself by eating the small skin parasites off other larger fish. They often form small colonies or "cleaning stations" around coral groupings where other fish travel to get their skin and gills picked clean of parasitic organisms. Neon Gobies were one of the first "ornamental" marine fish to reproduce in captivity (back in the 1970`s), and often do so without any outside stimulation and in less than ideal conditions. Once a mating pair forms, they can be quite prolific (yearly spawnings) as long as the maturing fry get adequate feedings of rotifers. During periods of reproduction, the Neon Gobies sequester themselves in an overturned shell or abandoned bivalve (or similar cave-like apparatus) and the female (plumper in the abdomen and slightly larger) lays a mass of white eggs.
