This fish is better known as the Pygmy Gourami from Thailand, Laos, and Indonesia. Grows to about and inch and a half and inhabits ponds and large drainage ditches in stagnant water full of aquatic vegetation. Oxygen levels are often low in these warm pools of water, but that isn't a problem for the Pygmy Gourami that can absorb oxygen through use of the labyrinth organ. This is a specialized organ present in all the gourami family fish that functions as an accessory respiratory organ when oxygen levels in the water are too low.
