Facts and Information

The genus name "Pimelodella" comes from the latinized form of the Greek word "pimele" (fat) and "odella" (little teeth). Common in the aquarium hobby, the four line Pictus cat originates in the catumbo river basin in Venezuela, South America. Like all members of the Pimelodid (long whiskered) catfish, the maxillary barbells are well developed and extend past the tail fin in mature specimens. This species feeds in the typical Pimelodid manner on small fish, shrimps, insect larvae and mulm.
