Vampire Swordtail

Facts and Information

vampire swordtail

Also called Blood Red Eye Swordtails, their native waters are warm, full of aquatic vegetation and swarming with insect larvae and winged insects on which they feed.  Females can start reproducing as young as four months of age and will be very prolific when provided with a protein rich diet, which allows them to produce eggs.  Swordtails do best in a harem-style pairing of several females to each male.  Also, keep the tank well covered, as Swordtails are known to readily jump out, especially when newly introduced.
