The Red Eye tetra is a very popular fish with hobbyists for its hardiness and adaptability. Also called the Yellow Banded Moenkhausia, it's found in Paraguay, eastern Bolivia, eastern Peru and western Brazil. The subtle metallic shimmer of the fish's body shows up best when it is kept over dark substrate with floating plants. Like most tetras, this fish likes to shoal, and is occasionally available in an albino form.
