Facts and Information
Females are plumper and larger than the males, who have a bright red nose when mature. Tiger Barbs are pretty much a "staple" in the freshwater end of the hobby and a popular schooling fish. Unfortunately, a lone Tiger Barb spells trouble for the community aquarium, and will exhibit "rogue" behavior by constantly harassing and chasing other fish, even large ones. To keep their bullying tendencies to a minimum, keep them with other cyprinids (barbs, danios, minnows, etc) and always in groups of six or more. In the wild, they are found in the clear streams of Borneo and Sumatra where they feed on aquatic worms and small crustaceans.
