This fish is common in the aquarium hobby. It is similar behaviors as the Orange Pike Cichlid, Crenicichla lepidota. Pike Cichlids are predatory, but with a little training, can be "weaned" onto prepared foods. While they will slurp flakes and pellets down with as much enthusiam as they will ghost shrimp or small fish, they never lose the drive to feed on live foods. Offering these types of foods regularly (three to five times a month) ensures peak health.
