Facts and Information

Also called the reticulated knifefish, it is found in tropical West Africa in the Niger River, Senegal and Gambia Rivers running east to the Tano and Prah basins in Ghana. It likes calm water with dense vegetation. Despite its large adult size of almost three feet, the reticulated knifefish it moves effortlessly through the thickest bunches of plants and rarely disturbs them. The mouth is large and opens down like a trap door to inhale small fish, shrimps, and anything else it can catch. It tolerates other fish well as long as they are not of similar body shape and color.
