Facts and Information
The Giant Gourami is the largest member of the labyrinth family of fish and was initially imported from Sumatra, Myanmar, Java, the Malay peninsula, Thailand and the Mekong River basin in Indochina. Juveniles have 8-10 vertical bars that fade as the fish matures, losing them altogether as adults. Large males are often aggressive towards others in the aquarium, but with enough space to swim, these behaviors subside.
