This fish is commonly referred to as "Haplochromis compressiceps" in the aquarium hobby. It is also known as the infamous Malawi Eye Biter for its habit of targeting the eyes of its prey. It is very common in the aquarium hobby and widespread throughout Lake Malawi as well as Lake Malombe and the upper Shire River.
