Chinese Water Dragons for Sale

The Chinese Water Dragon originates from the Tropics in the rain forests of South East to Eastern Asia.  They are arboreal, requiring many leafy plants, and can even change their coloration based on the temperature of their environment.  Typically, their grown size ranges from 2-3 feet and they can live up to 15 years if cared for properly.  A happy, healthy water dragon is active, generally alert, has crystal clear eyes, with a rounded, complete tail, healthy-looking skin, a regular eater, and has a clear nose and vent.  These little guys are extremely fun to watch and rewarding to care for! Please call ahead to the store location you are planning on visiting to confirm that Chinese Water Dragons for sale will be available.

Chinese Water Dragon Diet

Being omnivorous, these dragons will eat a wide range of insects as well as leafy greens and fruit.  Aside from worms, small feeder fish, fruits, and vegetables, dry commercial water dragon food and vitamin supplements can also accompany this diet.  Clean water should always be provided.  Young water dragons eat every day while older ones only eat once every 2 to 3 days.

Chinese Water Dragon Habitat

The size of the habitat for a Chinese Water Dragon depends on its size and may change as it grows.  Allow plenty of space for natural exercise and freedom to roam, as well as perhaps a shallow place to swim or bathe.  These guys also like to have a hiding area and branches or platforms to bask upon.  Substrates such as calcium-based sand is fine to use, or reptile carpet can make a good substitute.  Temperatures should range between 70°F on the cold end and 100°F on the warm end with a less than 65-80% humidity level via occasional misting.  Use an incandescent light and/or a ceramic heater for warmth and UVB lights for 10 to 12 hours a day.  Black heat lights and ceramic heaters, unlike basking lamps or UV lights, can be used any or all hours of the day/night.  Lizards shed their skin on a regular basis, so keep humidity levels well-regulated and provide things that aid in the process of shedding such as sphagnum moss or a shedding box.  Generally, these guys are housed on their own and separately from other reptiles.  Males and Females can generally be housed together as long as they are close in size.

Are Chinese Water Dragons Right for Me?

This pet is great for those seeking a somewhat exotic pet!  The Chinese Water Dragon can even become tolerant to human interaction.  However, they are also very timid and cautious, making it easy to scare them if you make loud noises or any quick movements near them.  Any reptile is capable of carrying diseases such as Salmonella, so always washing your hands after touching your pet or any of its habitat items/substances is a must.  For this reason, small children and pregnant women should not handle these pets or their associated items/substances.  They are also a moderately higher-maintenance pet best suited for the more experience pet owners.  Imagine, though, watching your very own dragon grow and change right in your home!
