Choosing a Bird
What are the best birds to have as pets? The answer to that question may be different for every customer because birds are so diverse in their personalities and needs. Uncle Bill’s has Conures, Cockatiels, Finches, Parakeets, Parrots, and more for sale. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by all your choices, we can help you decide which animal is best for you. We help you take into consideration:

Personality – Different bird breeds have different personalities. Canaries, for example, tend to be independent, and comfortable being alone, whereas Parakeets (also called Budgies) need regular social interaction with their owners or with other birds. You’ll want to think about how much time you have to commit to their needs.

Lifespan – Customers looking to buy a Parrot should be prepared for a lifelong commitment – Parrots can live for 50 years or more in captivity. That may make them a perfect fit if you want a companion for decades to come or it may have you rethinking your plan. Generally, the lifespan of pet birds correlates with size. Typically, smaller birds have shorter lifespans. Finches and Canaries don’t live as long as Parrots, but even so, they may live up to 10 years (or longer).

Care/housing – Even tiny Finches need a roomy cage, and a Parrot’s cage should be at least 4 feet tall. Cages housing larger birds, or several birds, will need to be cleaned frequently. Each bird may also enjoy different kinds of stimulation in their environment, so be sure to explore our bird toys.
